GOOD SPORTS: Sting Wins Middle School Lacrosse Title

The Savannah Lacrosse Middle School Sting recently completed another successful season under the helm of head coach Dick McAllaster and first-year assistant coach Brandon West.

The team is made up of players in grades two-eight from the Savannah area.

The Sting finished the season with a record of 20-4. The second-fifth graders finished 4-3 while participating in the Creeks of Jacksonville Tournament.

The sixth- to eighth-grade team won the elite Heathwood Hall Young Guns Tournament by defeating Hilton Head, Columbia, Heathwood Hall and Beaufort in the finals, 6-2. The Sting also won the regular-season title of the South Carolina Lacrosse League, finishing with a record of 15-1.

The Sting was well-represented in the South Carolina Middle School Lacrosse All-Star game early last month in Columbia, S.C. The East squad won for the second year in a row, 5-2. Ricky McAllaster led the team in scoring with three goals and one assist. Connor DeWitt added a goal and assist for the winning East squad.

The All-Star middle lines were anchored by Ryan Caughron, and the stout defense was led by Hunter Hebert. Goalie Andrew McNulty was named to the All-Star squad but was unable to attend the game.

Ricky McAllaster was named to the middle school All-Star team for the third year in a row.

Other team members who contributed to the Sting's winning season were Carlton Angell, Haigh Angell, Joshua Berryhill, Everette Coomer, Liam Cunningham, Luke Deering, Jackson Dibrell, Kevin Franco, Peter Franco, Ethan Haupt, Hayden Haupt, Cord Helmken, Ross Hogan, Jacob Hale, Gil Hope, William Hughes, James Michael Lowery, Daniel Mahoney, Michael McCumber, Heys McMath, Kyle McNulty, Peyton Osmundson, Mick Sullivan, Zachary Tsang, Braden Videon and Noah Yancey.
